IDENTIFICATION PROCESS

2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR

** Gifted and Talented Identification for school year 2012-2013: the screening committee will meet in June to formally identify subject area students. Parents of identified students will be notified via US Postal Service no later than September 2012. Teachers will also be notified and GT students will be tagged by subject area in Infinite Campus. Identification of Visual and Performing Arts students has been completed for 2012-2013 but additional students may be added through the spring 2012 screening process.**

Our Identification Committee meets annually to review data on all students, to request additional data as needed, and to identify students eligible for MSAD 75 gifted and talented services. The selection team includes a minimum of three qualified professionals, including but not limited to one administrator, one G/T staff member, and one classroom teacher or other professional educator with appropriate expertise. The responsibilities of this team are to:

STEP ONE
Review the information collected on all students, to focus in on the students who have met the screening criteria, and to collect additional information as needed.

STEP TWO
Select children eligible for gifted and talented services.

STEP THREE
Oversee the annual review of the selection process, and to ensure that the selection process is equitable. As dictated by Maine State law, no more than 5% of total enrollment is identified in the areas of General Intellectual Ability and/or Specific Academic Aptitudes.
