Isadora T, Zander C, and Alex L
On January 28th, Isadora T, Zander C, and Alex L participated in the Alpha Chapter competition for MathCounts at Kennebec Community College in Fairfield, Maine.
These three students woke up early to travel north and participate in an all day mathematics competition designed and run by working engineers. The competition is fierce and the work is hard; perfect scores are unheard of and many kids are excited to just get 4 out of 8 questions correct.
Our Mathletes persevered and did an amazing job, however, and two were rewarded with a chance to compete in the State competition for a place on the State team! Only the top four Mathletes will win a coveted place on the State team and the all expense trip to Florida to compete on television in the National MathCounts competition that goes with it.
Zander is holding his trophy for his 4th place win out of over 60 students at the Alpha Chapter competition and will be going on to the State Competition. Alex will also be joining him there on March 4th. While Isadora did not make it to the State competition it was only a matter of a couple of points difference. She will be cheering them on as they go forward and has already stated she intends to go next year!
All the students did an amazing job and should be extremely proud of their hard work and perseverance.
