Official Wordmasters Challenge Website

WordMasters Challenge is a national competition for students which encourages growth in vocabulary and verbal reasoning by emphasizing higher-level word-comprehension, logical abilities, and analytic and metaphorical thinking skills. This has become an enormously popular challenge for MSAD 75 students in grades 3-8.

The competition consists of 3 rounds of 25 vocabulary words. Students study the words and then take a test comprising of 20 ANALOGIES. Because of this format, the students must know more than just definitions, they must learn antonyms, synonyms, parts of speech, and use of the words in the context of a sentence.

Flat Osborn is an O.W.L. who represents Outstanding Warriors of Linguistics. He is a WordMasters Challenge participation award for the classroom who has a combination of high scores and student participation on each of the three challenges. Each round he takes residence in a classroom somewhere in our district. Last year he nested quite comfortably in one particular school and his hosts were in fierce competition to keep Flat Osborn.

This friendly competition resulted in some of the highest scores in 4 years. Operation Keep Flat Osborn and Operation Fly the Coop were highly successful. Their story is below.
